After spending years allowing self-contemptuous ideologies to be taught within the Utah public education system, it is boldly refreshing to see the repeal of R277-328 on the Board’s agenda this month.  This development is a promising step toward aligning the Utah public education system with the principles and mandates set forth in HB 427, passed in 2023. Even a casual review of this rule with HB 427 (passed in 2023) reveals clear conflicts between said rule and the Utah Legislative Code. These conflicts underscore the necessity of this repeal.

A vote in favor of this repeal will not only resolve the current legislative conflict but also demonstrate the Board’s commitment to fostering an educational environment focused on learning and critical thinking, free from the constraints of any singular ideology.

There is eager anticipation about the positive outcome of this agenda item and many are optimistic about the future direction of the Utah State Board of Education. A successful repeal vote this month will be a significant milestone in our continued journey toward educational excellence in Utah.
